ELIE SAAB SPRING/SUMMER 2017 COLLECTION / PARIS FASHION WEEK

The collection was inspired by the golden age of Egyptian cinema. Exquisite patterns embellished with intricate crystals, along with refreshing and soigne fabrics such as satin, lace and tulle, embraced a modern kind of femininity that was specifically designed to suit any contemporary woman, while at the same time reflecting the echoes of an era, as well as culture, that more and more fashion designers are now taking into account.

Distracting from the subzero temperatures outside, Elie Saab conjured the bygone glamour of the golden age of Egyptian cinema, with the designer citing actress Faten Hamama — in a party scene from film “I Don’t Sleep,” starring opposite Omar Sharif — among inspiration.

The more elaborate gowns in his sparkling, red carpet-oriented collection included a sheer tulle gown with hazy pale blue and silver placement embroidery evoking boats on the river Nile and palm trees, with the silvery fronds of one tree peeking over the sweetheart neckline.

Other highlights included a long-sleeved gown in tan satin peppered with deep blue “ Indygo eye” motifs.

Oriental gold embroideries and geometric crystal formations – presented as a surprise feature on the back of a cape, say — were a nice update on the designer’s signature embellishments. Mini crystal tassels and draped chains of gold beads on the bibs of dresses added movement.
With their headbands, diamond earrings and shades, the models also channeled a Fifties, Old Hollywood vibe, nodding to the glamour of Elizabeth Taylor – she of “Cleopatra” fame.
This was especially the case with the opening dresses with deep decolletes and sculpted folds crossing at the front. Their baby blue shade also evoking Jackie Kennedy – or a more recent adopter of retro glamour, such as America’s First Lady Melania Trump.

There’s a reason Elie Saab is a regular on the red carpet. The man knows his way around a beautiful evening look.

For the Spring 2017 haute couture collection, Saab pulled out all of the stops, presenting a range filled with intricate embroidery, luxe fabrics, and high-shine embellishment, all rendered in rich shades of blue and gold.

If nude dresses have become passe, no one has told Saab, as there we enough sheer options to keep celebrities showing off their well-toned bums for years to come.

In my opinion this is a really, really beautiful & glamour collection.

It just the most gorgeous collection I ever seen in my life!
